VODAFONE ANNOUNCEMENT
Vodafone Albania would like to further clarify the public and the media that AKEP is obliged by the law to conduct a transparent public consultation with interested parties on the proposed measures. The alleged regulatory measures that AKEP intended to approve in this week Board Meeting have never been communicated or consulted with the players in the market as an interested party in this process. We clarify that the new tariffs proposed by AKEP for mobile operators were not part of the public consultation document that AKEP referred to in today's press release.
Vodafone Albania was only informed only through the media, .about such discriminatory measure favouring Albtelecom to the detriment of the customers of the other operators, who will have to pay more for their calls to Albtelecom customers.
Unfortunately, this is not the only case of AKEP's "sympathy" towards Albtelecom, as AKEP intends to favor and further support Albtelecom with other regulatory measures proposed to be implemented in the fixed telephony market.
Notwithstanding, Vodafone Albania is committed to always support AKEP initiatives that are in full compliance with the EU regulatory framework and the legislation on the electronic communications sector in Albania. With supportive legal and regulatory framework in place, ensuring the rule of law and creating a sustainable investment climate, Vodafone will remain a key player in the telecommunications market in Albania.
