Vodafone Albania wishes to once again clarify to the public and the media that AKEP has a legal obligation to conduct transparent public consultation with all stakeholders for any measure proposed for implementation in the electronic communications market. The so‑called regulatory measures that AKEP intended to approve in the meeting of the Steering Council this week were never communicated or consulted with the operators in the market, as stakeholders in this process.
We clarify that the new tariffs proposed by AKEP for mobile operators were not part of the public consultation document to which AKEP referred in today’s press release.
Furthermore, we emphasize once again that Vodafone Albania was informed only through the media about these discriminatory tariffs, which favor Albtelecom and harm the customers of other operators, who would have to pay more for their calls to Albtelecom customers.
Unfortunately, this is not the only case of AKEP’s “favoritism” towards Albtelecom, as AKEP intends to further support and favor Albtelecom with other regulatory measures proposed for implementation in the fixed telephony market.
Nevertheless, Vodafone Albania remains committed to supporting AKEP’s initiatives that are fully aligned with the EU regulatory framework and the legislation governing the electronic communications sector in Albania. Only if a fair legal and regulatory framework is implemented, where the laws in force are respected and a stable investment climate is created, will Vodafone continue to be one of the key players in the electronic communications market in Albania.
